With 87,787 tonnes declared by the end of July, the current harvesting season surpasses the total recorded between April and October of the previous year, according to Nelson Saldivia's news report for Parte de Pesca.

The volume of Argentine red shrimp landed in the current national waters season reached a new milestone at the end of July, totaling 87,787 tonnes declared. This accumulated total exceeds the 87,325 tonnes recorded throughout the entire 2025 campaign, which ran from April to mid-October, according to information provided by journalist Nelson Saldivia for the specialized media Parte de Pesca.

Two months after the opening of fishing operations within the Permanent Management Area for Juvenile Hake (AVPJM), harvesting yields have experienced fluctuations in recent weeks. This situation has forced the fleet to shift across different sectors searching for schools, as concentrations have been more dispersed than at the start of the season.

Currently, a broad area is open to commercial fishing, spanning from latitude 42°S to 47°S. Starting Sunday, August 2, Subarea 7 was opened to commercial operations, a sector close to the port of Rawson that anticipates the entry of vessels from Chubut's yellow fleet. In contrast, the prospective survey planned for Subarea 9 was canceled due to a lack of participating vessels interested in conducting the biological assessment.

Overall, the shrimp fleet holds authorization to harvest the species Pleoticus muelleri in Subareas 4, 5, 7, 8, the northwestern quarter and eastern half of Subarea 12, the southern half of Subarea 14, as well as Subareas 15 and 16.

As the third month of operations within the restricted area begins, the largest concentration of vessels is observed in Subareas 7 and 8, even though nearly the entire designated zone remains open for searching and fishing.

Out of the total accumulated 87,787 tonnes, the month of July led yields with 40,977 tonnes caught, followed by June with 38,976 tonnes. Previously, harvesting outside the closed area contributed 6,081 tonnes during March and 1,753 tonnes in the second half of April.
