Fishing Sector Increases by 158.40% Due to Higher Maritime Species Landings

In April, the national economy grew by 5.28%, mainly in the fishing sector with 158.40% - After fourteen months of negative results, the manufacturing sector grew by 11.43%

In that sense, the Minister of Production, Sergio González, highlighted the work of his sector, announcing the growth of the fishing sector by 158.40%, compared to April 2023, as a result of the greater landing of maritime species, especially anchovy for flour and oil. fish, which has generated US$ 385 million and benefited more than 11 thousand Peruvians with direct work and created more than 30 thousand in indirect jobs. “This is important and encouraging news that responds to timely and quick decisions that were made in the month of April and that benefit fishing activity, which is so transcendent and important for the country,” said the head of Produce.

Likewise, he indicated that, after fourteen months of negative results, the manufacturing sector grew by 11.43% through the increase in the production and conservation of fish, crustaceans and mollusks, being one of the sectors with the greatest impact on the April production result. 2024.

In addition, he pointed out that the opening of the Chancay Port Terminal will position us as export leaders in the region. "From Produce, a working group has been created between the private sector and the state to prepare companies for operations in Chancay," announced the Minister of Production, Sergio González.

“It is a great opportunity for growth, but not only for Chancay, but for a chain, from the airport to the Ancón Industrial Park, that in coordination with ProInversión we have already awarded the park in better conditions,” added the head of the sector.

Bicentennial Markets

Minister González indicated that the Government is promoting the Bicentennial Markets program, which has an investment of S/ 300 million (USD 79.59 M) and will generate thousands of jobs.

This year the Ministry of Production has signed agreements with three municipalities in Sullana, Huancayo and Reque. It should be noted that, by 2025, Produce plans to open nearly 20 modern food markets throughout the country.
