Produce establishes the First Anchovy Fishing Season 2023 for indirect human consumption

The start of the season is subject to the conclusions and recommendations sent by IMARPE.
Through Ministerial Resolution No. 000191-2023-Produce, the Ministry of Production established the First Fishing Season 2023 for the anchovy (Engraulis ringens) and white anchovy (Anchoa nasus) resource, destined for indirect human consumption, in the maritime area between the northern end of the maritime domain of Peru and 16°00'LS.

The regulation, published in the extraordinary edition of the Official Gazette El Peruano, also states that the start of the First Fishing Season 2023, is subject to the conclusions and recommendations that the Instituto del Mar del Perú - IMARPE sends to the Ministry of the Production, as a result of the authorized exploratory fishing, without prejudice to the total or partial protection measures of the juvenile fraction, among others, that it recommends to be established, as appropriate.
Said exploration will be carried out as of June 3, 2023 at 00:00 hours, for a period of up to seven (07) calendar days, in the maritime area outside five (05) nautical miles of the coastline, in the extreme north of the Peruvian sea and 16°00'LS.

Likewise, it is provided that the total maximum permissible catch limit of the north-central zone (LMTCP North-Center) of the anchovy (Engraulis ringens) and white anchovy (Anchoa nasus) resource, for indirect human consumption is one million 91,000 tons.
In this sense, only vessels with a fishing permit for the anchovy resource destined for indirect human consumption, registered and authorized to carry out extractive activities during the current fishing season, may carry out fishing activities.

Finally, it is determined that, the completion date of the First Fishing Season 2023 will be, when IMARPE recommends it due to environmental or biological circumstances, or failing that, once the Maximum Total Permissible Capture Limit of the Northern Zone has been reached - Center (LMTCP North - Center) authorized.
