EFFOP is the most important European Association of Fish Oil and Meal Manufacturers, whose mission is to defend interests in legislative matters, promote good practices and establish collaborations with the European Commission.

The entry of ANFACO-CECOPESCA represents a milestone for EFFOP, as it deals with the Spanish production of products based on the valorization of fish processing industries, and being leaders in circular economy and innovation.

This week ANFACO-CECOPESCA has formalized its definitive entry into EFFOP, the European Association of Fish Oil and Meal Manufacturers, as part of its 2024-2026 Strategic Plan that involves strengthening its sectoral representativeness and promoting technical associations as a lever that defends the legal security of companies.

This inclusion will allow the actions of ANFACO-CECOPESCA to be strengthened together with the production subsector of valorized by-products, with Spanish fish oils and meals being the example of a real circular economy in the fishing industry, and differentiation from other countries. To date, during the year 2023, the Spanish industry associated in said division, known as ANFAPHES, processed more than 40,000 tons of meals and almost 10,000 tons of fish oils in the 6 companies in the country.

Joining EFFOP represents new recognition, improving the collaboration platform with European partners, and strengthening influence on future policies in view of the next legislative cycle that begins in June. The above will have a real effect on the use of said fish oils and meals in such important sectors as animal feed or aquaculture.

EFFOP has already made statements such that: “With more than 90% of its raw materials derived from fishing by-products, the Spanish industry exemplifies the sustainable use of resources [...] New opportunities will be created for the growth and innovation of the companies. by-product techniques, opening doors for the progress and improvement of the sector.”
