PRODUCE Sets Anchovy Fishing Quota for Direct Human Consumption at 150,000 Tons

The Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) established the maximum total capture limit for Direct Human Consumption (LMTC-CHD) of the anchovy resource for the year 2024 at 150,000 tons, according to Ministerial Resolution No. 000196-2024-PRODUCE.

The head of PRODUCE, Sergio González Guerrero, highlighted that this limit, applicable to artisanal and smaller-scale extractive activities along the entire coast, seeks to ensure a sustainable and responsible supply for fish processing.
According to the standard, IMARPE carries out monitoring and follow-up of the main biological, population and fishing indicators of the anchovy resource, as well as the impacts on other species of bycatch and the seabed, and must inform and recommend in a timely manner to PRODUCE. the measures that are necessary.
Regarding the supply of anchovy fishing, industrial fishing establishments that have licenses to operate processing plants for direct human consumption, under responsibility, only receive the volumes of anchovy resource to be destined exclusively for the production of canned, frozen, cured foods and other products for direct human consumption previously authorized.
This supply will be carried out based on the installed capacity and the raw material requirement demanded by its production program, ensuring its adequate conservation in the reception and storage ponds.

Meanwhile, regarding the monitoring of the fishery, the General Directorate of Supervision, Inspection and Sanction monitors the catch limit, as well as the bycatch limit, and informs the General Directorate of Policies and Regulatory Analysis in Fisheries in a timely manner. and Aquaculture, in order to adopt the necessary measures, as appropriate.
Finally, the General Directorate of Supervision, Inspection and Sanction adopts the monitoring, control and surveillance measures that are necessary to ensure compliance with this Ministerial Resolution.
