Balfegó, a leading company in bluefin tuna fishing and marketing, has become the first B Corp company in the Spanish fishing sector. Balfegó has achieved recognition after an initial audit process of its different sustainability policies, and a subsequent evaluation process of new projects launched in this same area, both environmental and social, which has been developed over the last few years. 2 years. Within the program of sustainability projects launched by the company for evaluation, and within the environmental field, it is worth highlighting the calculation and reduction of the carbon footprint, as well as the implementation of a system of corrective measures for this same footprint. Likewise, the company has implemented an internal animal welfare protocol, extensive management to reduce waste, prioritizing local purchasing or changing packaging for more sustainable ones, among other measures.

Coinciding with obtaining this recognition and as part of its commitments, Balfegó has announced that it will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 46% between now and 20301 and compared to those of 2019. As a B Corp company, Balfegó reinforces its historical commitment to sustainability with its team, with the community of chefs and restaurateurs, with consumers and, of course, with the species and the preservation of natural ecosystems.
Furthermore, during the process, Balfegó has also achieved environmental certifications that guarantee its good practices in terms of fishing management, aquaculture or the processing of bluefin tuna under criteria of environmental sustainability, traceability or authenticity. Likewise, the company has managed to ensure that 100% of its electricity consumption comes from renewable sources, has reduced its water consumption and has undertaken a project to replace its current fleet of vehicles (trucks and transport and delivery vans) with others. with electric propulsion.
