Vietnamese pangasius export companies are developing more value-added products such as breaded and seasoned fish to the Chinese market to capture retail sales opportunities. and supermarkets are growing in China after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Vietnamese pangasius exporters are researching and developing more value-added pangasius products including breaded and seasoned fish to seek more opportunities in this market.

At the China Fisheries and Seafood Exhibition (CFSE), Head of Export Sales Department of Go Dang Joint Stock Company (GODACO) said that the company is shifting its focus and focusing mainly on added value products, breaded and seasoned. spices and other products from pangasius. Value added products currently account for 10-20% of GODACO's revenue and are expected to increase to 30% in the future. GODACO mainly exports pangasius fillets to Europe, North America, South America and the Middle East. In addition, the company also exports value added products to Japan, Korea, Singapore and Malaysia.

Compared to other seafood, the global pangasius market has recovered more slowly after COVID-19, but sales are expected to improve. Value-added pangasius products need to be introduced and advertised continuously to create tastes and habits for consumers in this country of billions of people.

Industry experts affirm that the demand for high-quality fish fillets still has room to grow significantly in China, despite the decline in Vietnamese pangasius imports in the first three quarters of 2023. According to Chinese Customs By the end of September 2023, this market had consumed 127,000 tons of frozen pangasius, worth 264 million USD.

Mr. Chen, General Director of Octogone distributor in China of Vinh Hoan Joint Stock Company, said that high quality pangasius still has an advantage in China, with explosive growth potential if raw materials are replaced in the way of production. Processing. Some popular pangasius dishes in China include: pangasius cooked with Sichuan pickles, Sichuan pickles or grilled fish, hot pot.

The Chinese pangasius market began to recover from July 2023 and increased continuously in August and September. This growth comes from increased demand for food during student summer vacations and restrictions. regarding the pandemic are relaxed. Pangasius sales in the food service industry are also recovering. Clearly, pangasius consumption remains stable, but the challenge of selling out higher priced inventory from last year caused profits to decrease significantly.

According to data from Vietnam Customs, in the first half of November 2023, Vietnamese pangasius exports to China & Hong Kong reached nearly 20 million USD, up 37% over the same period last year. As of November 15, 2023, the Chinese & HK markets imported more than 510 million USD of pangasius from Vietnam, down 22% over the same period last year. This market is showing signs of positive growth in the last quarter of this year. Pangasius export turnover to China & HK continues to maintain positive growth momentum throughout November 2023.
