Herring fishing in the north with good luck, and better collection of North Sea herring.

NVG herring:

As expected, there was a modest quantity with a total of 7,800 tonnes for the whole week. Apart from a purse seiner catch of 800 t, it is the coastal group that has contributed the most this week. Of this, the smallest boats that depend on a purse seiner boat have fished around 3,000 t.

Herring fishing in the north has taken place both at Kvænangen, outside Lyngen, in Øksfjorden and at Alta. The sizes are as before this autumn, in the range 280 to 320 grams with an average of 294 g.

Herring have been caught further south, both in the municipalities of Hitra/Frøya on the Trøndelag coast and in Meløy on the Helgeland coast. The herring here is slightly smaller with average sizes in the range of 240 - 280 g.

With this week's catches, we have reached this year's quota of 388,490 t with a load of 2,500 t of flex for next year.

In relation to purse seiners boats that collect herring for the smallest coastal fleet and pump straight from the seine, the last one is almost loaded on Sunday evening. Throughout the autumn, we have had 17 seiners operations with a total quantity of 13,700 t.

Very modest herring catches are expected further in December as the boat quotas are essentially secured.

North Sea herring:

A number of boats had quotas left for North Sea herring, and especially in the Norwegian zone. From six boats in purse seines, 3,400 tonnes have been fished and one in SUK has taken 125 ten British zone.

The boats that have fished in the Norwegian zone have been in the area from Patchbanken and further southeast to Revet, which is at the same level as Stavanger to Egersund. There are reports of periodically good herring from here, and net casts of over 700 t have actually been taken. Which is a bit unusual at this time.

The sizes of the North Sea herring are in the range of 140 - 160 grams, and consumer buyers' interest is still good.

A glance at the quota picture shows that here too the quota for all groups of 117,171 t has been taken. It may be that we get "a catch or two" in December.

Coastal sprat:

The coastal boat has also this week been on various fjords hunting sprat. From the Oslofjord area, 150 tonnes have been fished for seasoning, in the Sognefjord, 25 tonnes have been taken for canning.

In the Trondheimsfjord, a boat (Storegg) has been trial fishing, since the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research had to cancel its planned sprat trip. At the weekend they got 50 tonnes of sprat with sizes of 62 pieces 7 kg.

Horse mackerel:

The most patient hunt for horse mackerel in the fjords of Vestland, - and the coast of Rogaland. Almost 90 tonnes of large horse mackerel have been fished from four different boats.

Fishing on "Kanten":

Only Piraja reported a catch from "Kanten" last week, and they had 145 t of blue whiting and 100 t of norway pout, plus some small quantities of other species.
