The biological parameters of the resource prospected in the Northern Zone recommend opening the fishery in that sector, where sizes L1 and L2 were caught for two days, without hake bycatch. The South Zone will remain closed until January or February.
After weeks of back-and-forth due to disagreements between stevedoring companies and the union, the short four-day fishing survey was finally completed, with meager results to the south and positive results to the north. On Friday the season was enabled and the entire yellow and artisanal fleet will be able to go fishing between the parallels 43°00' LS and 44°00' LS, within the provincial jurisdiction of Chubut.

“The season is going to start from Friday. Once the survey is over, the observers' records are evaluated and the Fisheries Secretariat will open the season from zero hour on Friday and the entire fleet will leave,” announced Gustavo González president of the CAFACh .
Survey results
When asked about the indicators revealed by the survey carried out by 18 vessels less than 21 meters in length, he mentioned that “a survey was carried out in two areas. One to the south from Isla Escondida to Camarones Bay, where fishing was done for two days and there were small prawns and a lot of accompanying hake, above 40%, when the maximum allowed is 10%; Therefore, that entire area is not going to be opened because the shrimp needs to grow in the next two or three months, and because there is a lot of hake that is caught and ends up thrown into the water, so it is not advisable to make a absurd slaughter and that entire area is not going to be opened,” González revealed.
“The other two days we fished in the northern area from Isla Escondida to the mouth of the Madryn Gulf. That area was divided in two and the fleet went with nine ships well to the north and nine ships in front of Rawson. In those two subzones they gave excellent results: a lot of shrimp without accompanying species, less than 1%, and all the shrimp were L2 and L1," he detailed about the results of the hauls and announced "that these two complete subzones are the ones that are going to open ”.

Truce with the SUPA
Regarding the truce signed between the private sector and the unions, he said that “two documents were signed. One that was the organic document of social peace that all unions, companies and the Government signed. And, a second document signed at the Ministry of Labor between the stevedoring companies and the SUPA. That document says that one party continues to ask for 160% and the other offers 138%, and that there will be no restrictions on work and until they reach an agreement they will continue to charge what they were charging,” he explained.
"On December 5, the stevedoring companies are going to settle on the offered floor, which is 138% and the difference between that percentage and 160% remains under discussion, which will be retroactive, in the event that there is an agreement," he added.
Business links
The head of the chamber of the yellow fleet was consulted about a flyer that circulated on social networks, reporting links between businessmen of that fleet and the Rawson stevedoring companies in conflict. “It has some principle of truth, although it is not like that. I do not participate in any stevedoring company. If I wanted to, it wouldn't be bad because I have every right to participate. Gustavo González participates in fourteen companies. Therefore, he could also have a stake there if he wanted to, which is not the case,” he stated.

“If there are shipowners of the yellow fleet that have participation in a stevedoring company, there are also stevedoring companies that have participation as shipowners in the yellow fleet. But one thing has nothing to do with the other,” González explained.
Port investment
In another vein, they asked the president of CAFACH about the decision of president-elect Javier Milei to cut all public works and bet on the Chilean-style investment model with private participation. He opined that it would be viable for the port of Rawson. “I see it as very possible. We had proposed it years ago when the work on the Rawson port was not progressing to do it privately, but the law does not allow it as the port, which is a provincial port, is configured today,” he stated.

“What is being advanced is for the port of Rawson and the port of Camarones to become a consortium with public and private participation. This would allow private investments. Today, with the status of the port of Rawson, the funds that pay for the ships do not allow them to be used for works, only for port maintenance. Therefore, by creating a private consortium we could make investments to generate growth in the port as it deserves,” he concluded.
