Anchovy fishing suspension extended until IMARPE new report

The Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) decided to extend anchovy (Engraulis ringens) and longnose anchovy (Anchoa nasus) fishing suspension, which has been in force since last November 26, and which was initially to last 10 days.
This measure will continue until Instituto del Mar de Peru (IMARPE), based on the results of a new study providing updated information on anchovy distribution and concentration, recommends capture activity resumption.
Through a new ministerial resolution (No. 592-2017), PRODUCE authorized IMARPE to perform the operation Eureka LXXI with fishing vessels in the maritime area between 04°45' and 15°21' LS, from 5 up to 100 nautical miles off the coast, for a period of four days.
The start date will be determined by IMARPE, prior coordination with the owners of the vessels involved.
A total of 13 larger-scale steel vessels with a capacity of 270 cubic metres and 10 large-scale wooden vessels with a hold capacity of at least 32.6 cubic metres will participate in the operation.
The vessels must have a valid fishing permit for catching the anchovy resource, maximum catch limit per vessel (LMCE) corresponding to the second fishing season of the northern-central 2017 anchovy resource, the allocation for the aforementioned season, as well as being equipped with 13 mm mesh size nets and with an operational beacon of the Satellite Tracking System (SISESAT).
The cost of the activity will be covered by the participating shipowners, according to indications by IMARPE.
Three business days after the completion of Eureka operation, IMARPE must submit a report to the General Directorate of Regulatory Policies and Analysis in Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Vice Ministry of Fisheries of PRODUCE.
