In September 2021, imports of frozen giant squid (dosidicus gigas) amounted to 2,184 tonnes, 23% less than the 2,824 tonnes the previous year.
The accumulated import volume in September was 15,820 tons, 20% less than the 19,868 tons of the previous year.
From 2016 to 2021, the average import volume in September was 2,276 tons, the 2,184 tons in 2021 show a 4% drop.
The main exporters of frozen giant squid are Peru, Chile, China and the Philippines.
42% (6,655 tons) of the total volume was imported from Peru, 42% (6,606 tons) from Chile and 16% (2,465 tons) from China.
The highest average unit import price per country was for that of Filipino origin with USD 10.50 / kg, USD 1.45 / kg for Peru and USD 1.42 / kg for Chile.
In September 2021, frozen squid imports amounted to USD 3.47 million, 31% less than the USD 5.05 million the previous year.
The average unit price of imports in September was USD 1.59 / kg, 11% less than the USD 1.79 / kg of the previous year.
