Fider Pescados, a leading tilapia producer and processor in São Paulo, is significantly boosting its fish farming operations.

The company has launched a new fattening farm at the Estreito reservoir near Rifaina, home to its headquarters in São Paulo's interior. This expansion is expected to add 8,000 tons of tilapia production annually, an 83% increase over the current capacity of 9,600 tons per year.

“The MCassab Group, to which Fider belongs, has strategically chosen to invest in fish farming, recognizing the strong growth potential of the tilapia market,” said Fider’s director, Juliano Kubitza. “Brazil is already a leading global producer and is poised to become a major exporter. Fider, as one of the largest exporters of fresh tilapia fillets to the United States, is well-positioned to capitalize on this momentum. We project more than 30% revenue growth by 2025, reaching approximately R$200 million.”

Scaling Capacity to Meet Growing Demand

Fider's investment aims to address rising domestic and international demand while fully utilizing its advanced cold storage facility in Rifaina, which has a processing capacity of 20,000 tons annually.

The Estreito reservoir project includes plans for 400 net cages, with the first 100 units to be operational by April 2025. Despite the ambitious production increase, the farm will occupy just 2 hectares of water.

Diversifying Growth with an Integrated Production Model

In addition to expanding production, Fider is adopting an integrated production model, similar to systems used in poultry and pig farming by cooperatives in Paraná. This model involves partnerships with local fish farmers, who will receive fingerlings, feed, and technical support from Fider to raise tilapia on their properties.

“We’ve already selected two fish farmers for this program,” Kubitza shared. “This initiative not only enhances our production capabilities but also strengthens ties with the community and promotes sustainable farming practices.”

Positioned for Market Leadership

With these strategic expansions, Fider is poised to solidify its leadership in Brazil's tilapia industry. By leveraging advanced infrastructure, adopting innovative farming models, and targeting both local and global markets, the company is setting a benchmark for growth and sustainability in aquaculture.
