It takes place in the BIPO Mar Argentino. They estimate marking around 5000 copies.
On board the Oceanographic Fisheries Research Vessel (BIPO) Mar Argentino, the National Institute for Fisheries Research and Development (INIDEP) began this Wednesday the shrimp (Pleoticus muelleri) tagging campaign, which is financed by the private sector. During 15 days and with Lic. Esp. Paula Moriondo Danovaro as chief scientist, researchers and technicians estimate that around 5,000 specimens of this species will be marked.
The study of the migrations of marine organisms helps to know and understand the life cycle of fishery resources, essential to suggest appropriate management measures for the fishery. In addition, the creation of an effective resource management plan depends, in part, on detailed knowledge of the movement pattern of the species, especially in those that take place in more than one administrative jurisdiction.

Nowadays, with the increase of commercially important concentrations north of the 41º00'S parallel and with the presence of large shrimp in the Buenos Aires platform, it is important to know their origin, by virtue of determining the origin of said concentrations.
The final objective of the shrimp tagging plan is, through the recapture of tagged specimens by the commercial fleet, the identification of the migratory routes of shrimp, tagged and released at parallel 42°00'S and the estimation of individual growth rates.

INIDEP made an agreement with Argentine Federal Shrimp Owners (ALFA), so that the companies that comprise it finance the costs that the current campaign will demand. It is the first time that this business group will contribute resources to carry out such relevant studies for the Argentine fishing sector.
The seals used in marking were imported by the company Vieira Argentina SA, in collaboration with the companies Arbumasa, Argenova, Explotación Pesquera de la Patagonia, Grupo Veraz, Pesquera Deseado, Pesquería del Atlántico, Pesquera Santa Cruz, Vieira Argentina, Xeitosiño, Moscuzza, Solimeno, Pesquera San Isidro, Cabo Vírgenes, Iberconsa, Estrella Patagónica, Congeladores patagonicos and Altamare, belonging to the CAPECA, CAPIP and CEPA chambers, therefore, the INIDEP appreciates everyone's collaboration and contribution.
