The candidate from Peru, Dr. Ricardo Oliveros Ramos, was elected unanimously during the 12th meeting of the SPRFMO Commission, its supreme body, made up of 17 member countries.
The new president of the Scientific Committee of the SPRFMO has an extensive career developed in IMARPE and in international fisheries research centers, which gives him a unique vision to lead efforts in research and sustainable management of hydrobiological resources at the regional level.
Better fishing performance for the country
It is important to mention that at the 12th meeting of the PSRFMO Commission, the Peruvian delegation achieved an increase in the national quota of horse mackerel (Trachurus Murphyi) on the high seas, which translates into a new catch limit of up to 25,337 tons of resource.
In 2023, Peru marked another key achievement, being the first country in which the allotted Peruvian quota of horse mackerel for the industrial fleet in international waters was fully caught. This success is a testament to the effectiveness of the policies implemented and the growing capacity of the Peruvian fleet in sustainable resource management.
