Quiet summer week, some mackerel and a couple of good catches of North Sea herring

It has been a somewhat quiet summer week this week as both facilities and fishermen have taken some well-deserved summer holidays.

Mackerel

The fishing in the north has been somewhat affected by bad weather this week, but the fleet got a small weather window on Thursday and Friday before it blew up again towards the weekend. A total of 117 tonnes of mackerel have been reported from the area just outside Svolvær in the Vestfjord. The average of the mackerel is around 500-530 grams.

The mackerel fleet in the south has been somewhat luckier with the weather and a total of 44 tonnes have been caught from the coastal areas between Askvoll and Vindafjord municipality.

The mackerel in the south is slightly smaller than the mackerel in the north and has had an average size between 275-375 grams.

On Wednesday we could also report that Selvåg Senior went towards the border to the Smutthavet in search of the mackerel. They observed some mackerel, but there was a lot of bait in the fish which had an average size of 350 grams.

Libas also launched last week to search for mackerel, and they have now searched north in the Norwegian Sea and up towards the areas outside the Westfjords.

North Sea herring

Hardhaus got a full flap this week when they tested the new vessel and reported a total of 1650 tonnes of North Sea herring from Oseberg. A couple of other vessels also got good catches early in the week and finished with their quotas for North Sea herring. The fishing slowed down towards the weekend when the collection of herring got worse. A total of 2670 tonnes were reported from vessels on the North Sea herring.

Industrial trawl

The fishing in Kanten is going well and this week 1307 tonnes of blue whiting, 58 tonnes of North Sea herring, 95 tonnes of current herring, 9 tonnes of silver cod and 1483 tonnes of eye pole have been reported.
