The Serenín of Celeiro has the largest individual rights for mackerel and other species. For two years the owner can rent or sell them

There were no human losses in the shipwreck of the Serenín when sailing to Avilés, but the accident will economically affect the crew and shipowner, which has the largest individual quotas in the entire northwest assigned to this trawler. This same Friday, the Ministry of Fisheries published the allocation of Norway lobster ('cigala') fishing possibilities for this 2022 in the Bay of Biscay and Northwest Galicia, after years of closed seasons and scientific campaigns. Most boats receive between 1 and 4% of the quota and the Serenín corresponds to 1,733 kilos, 14%. He has those rights and those of the Abrela twin (former Minchos Cuarto), discharged.

In addition, the same sinister ship, registered with the provincial association of shipowners of the Pontevedra coast (Arposur), sailed every year with the highest quotas. In the adjustment and distribution of Fisheries in March last year, considering the Brexit agreements with the United Kingdom, the Serenín accounted for 329.6 tonnes of hake (12%), much higher than those of the Eleuterio José Balayo (109) or the rights of the burelés O Cantiño (68) and the celeirés Pino Ladra (60). He could catch 218 tons of horse mackerel in zone VIIIc (12.6%) plus 1,258 tons. (10.3%) in the IX. The assignment of mackerel to this trawler stands out, since the General Secretariat of Fisheries then calculated for the Serenín a provisional adapted quota of 1,160 tons of mackerel 'xarda' (13% of the total trawler) when the next in quota, the Baleiro 1º, was 413,216 kilos. In addition, the Serenín was entitled to an additional 50 tons of scientific quota for testing cameras on board. In blue whiting, another target species, also enjoyed 13% in the VIIIc: 1,377 tons.

According to the fishing regulations, the owner will have several years to build or buy a new boat and for two he can not go fishing and choose to rent them, or sell said quotas. Industry sources believe that he will have no problem renting quotas, especially for mackerel.
