The report highlights the main achievements of a year marked by innovation, international expansion, and collaboration in marine conservation.
Madrid – Satlink, a Spanish company and global leader in technological solutions for ocean knowledge and marine resource management, has presented its 2024 Sustainability Report.
Key Milestones in 2024:
- Boosting R&D and Circular Economy: Satlink increased its R&D staff by 124% and recovered 7,000 kg of marine litter through its circular economy program, ReCon, which expanded its reach to 16 countries across the three main oceans. ReCon reconditions recovered Sustainable Fishing Devices (SFDs) for scientific research, marine conservation, and artisanal fishing, generating local employment and promoting the reuse of technological waste in the marine environment.
- International Expansion: The company took a strategic step by incorporating the Canadian company Xeos Technologies, now Xeos by Satlink. Specializing in ocean monitoring, this integration strengthened Satlink's capabilities in tracking technologies, advanced sensors, and marine ecosystem observation.
- Innovation for Sustainable Fishing: Together with OPAGAC, Satlink launched SelecTuna, a global initiative with over 1,500 intelligent SFDs deployed in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. This project represents a significant advancement in the selectivity of target species catches and the improvement of sustainable exploitation of fishing resources.

Commitment to Operational Sustainability:
Satlink reaffirmed its commitment to more responsible production, achieving a 32% reduction in CO₂ emissions per manufactured SFD and up to a 28% reduction in the use of plastics in its most recent models in 2024. 100% of its production was carried out with renewable energy, of which 18% was generated directly at its own facilities through solar systems. Its manufacturing plant achieved full automation of its processes, with a failure rate of less than 0.1%.

Investment in Talent and Equity:
Internally, Satlink experienced a 27% growth in its global workforce and a 124% increase in its R&D team, consolidating its commitment to innovation. 30% of management positions are held by women, and 100% of staff have private medical insurance and training in equality skills.
Reaffirming Satlink's Purpose:
The 2024 Sustainability Report reaffirms Satlink's role as a link between ocean science and technology, offering data-driven solutions for more responsible and transparent management of marine resources by governments, regulators, fishing fleets, scientific institutions, and NGOs.
According to Faustino Velasco, Chairman and CEO of Satlink, “This report is a testament to the daily effort of our team and a reflection of our long-term vision. We seek to build a more sustainable marine environment and a more connected, informed, and committed maritime industry.”
Kathryn Gavira, Director of Science and Sustainability at Satlink, added: “Science is at the heart of everything we do. We collaborate closely to transform ocean data into knowledge that drives conservation, improves fisheries management, and fosters evidence-based decision-making.”
The impact of these actions has been recognized by international organizations such as the World Sustainability Awards and by leaders in the national industry such as the Spanish Maritime Cluster.
