Kyokuyo Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Makoto Inoue) has announced the completion of a state-of-the-art imitation crab meat production facility in the United States.
Built by its consolidated subsidiary, Ocean's Kitchen Corporation (Headquarters: Kent, Washington; President: Yutaka Kato), the factory is located in Washington State and officially opened on December 9th, 2024, with an inauguration ceremony held on the same day.
This strategic move positions Kyokuyo to capitalize on the growing U.S. demand for health-conscious foods. Imitation crab meat, already popular in urban areas as a key ingredient in salads and California rolls, is gaining traction nationwide due to its high protein content and low calorie count. As these health-conscious trends penetrate deeper into suburban and rural markets, consumption is projected to increase significantly.

Strategic Location and Expertise
The factory's location in Washington State offers proximity to Alaska, a major source of Alaska pollock surimi—the primary ingredient in imitation crab meat. This strategic placement ensures a steady supply of raw materials while optimizing logistical efficiency.
Kyokuyo brings decades of expertise to the new facility. Its domestic subsidiary, Kyokuyo Foods Co., Ltd. (Headquartered in Ehime Prefecture, Japan), has a 40-year legacy of producing high-quality imitation crab meat. By leveraging this experience, the U.S. facility will produce tailored products that align with local preferences and culinary applications, ensuring they meet the unique demands of the American market.
Expanding Overseas Operations
As part of Kyokuyo’s broader strategy to strengthen its global presence, the company is enhancing its production and sales capabilities in international markets. The Washington-based factory represents a key milestone in this effort, enabling the company to serve the U.S. market more effectively and meet rising demand.
