The Fisheries and Aquaculture Committee of the National Society of Industries, meeting in the General Assembly, unanimously re-elected Alfonso Miranda Eyzaguirre as its president for the period 2024-2026.
He is accompanied on his board by Gerardo Carrera and Darío Alvites as vice presidents, Jorge Miranda as secretary, Sheyla Beltrán as treasurer and Baruch Byrne, David Fernández, Huey Chu, Fernando Galeno, Francisco Takahashi, José Luis Bellina, Paolo Raffo and Philippe Botta as members. The past president is David Epstein.
The Committee is close to celebrating 15 years of fruitful institutional life and brings together the 32 main companies in the country in the sector.
Miranda Eyzaguirre revealed that fishing and aquaculture for human consumption, in 2023, represented 59.5% of Peru's total fishing exports.
“Although this activity used only 44 percent of fishing landings, it has made almost 60 percent of exports (US $ 1,750 million dollars) and represented 75.1 percent of the fishing GDP during 2023,”he explained.
Miranda expressed his confidence that the new administration of the Ministry of Production will know how to find the mechanisms to promote the fishing and aquaculture sector for human consumption to make it more competitive and that it can be a fundamental pillar in the fight against anemia and child malnutrition. as well as generating more jobs and exports.
He recalled that Chile and Ecuador have a great advantage over us because they have opted for this sector and that is why they export 7.5 billion dollars (Chile) and 9.0 billion dollars (Ecuador)
