With a plan that includes the distribution of 60,000 fingerlings, the government of Misiones seeks to strengthen fish farming activity in the province.
In the second stage of this initiative, fingerlings of pacu and shad were delivered to producers from the town of San Javier and nearby areas, in an event held at the Alto Uruguay Cooperative in 25 de Mayo. The choice of January for this activity is due to the fact that it is an ideal time for stocking fish.
The event, organized by César Niklas, manager of Programs and Projects of the Institute of Circular Macroeconomics (IMaC), and Guillermo Faifer, director of Aquaculture and Fisheries Development of the Ministry of Agriculture and Production, included training on pond management for the benefited producers.
Participating in the event were Roque Gervasoni, president of IMaC; Nori Otto, mayor of 25 de Mayo; and Fernando Da Silva, president of the Alto Uruguay Cooperative Limited (CAUL). The activity was carried out at the facilities of the Agriculture division of the CAUL.
In an interview with Channel 12, Gervasoni highlighted the importance of fish farming in the province:
"Misiones has an annual demand of 9,000 tons of fish, of which we only supply a part. Our objective is to promote this activity so that it becomes a profitable and sustainable source for the settlers."
For his part, Faifer explained: "This year we began with the delivery of fingerlings for the producers of San Javier and we will continue in other localities, such as Alvear and Puerto Leoni. Every week we advance with new deliveries, mainly of pacu and shad, distributing between 100 and 150 fingerlings per producer."
With these actions, the province seeks not only to satisfy the growing local demand for fish, but also to consolidate fish farming as a key economic activity for small producers in Misiones.
