The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service, together with the Navy, went to the farming center to supervise the veracity of the events and an eventual escape of fish, making available all the technological means and officials of the Service to monitor this contingency.
Sernapesca inspector with Navy personnel making a survey to the Caicura center located in the Seno Reloncavi, Los Lagos Region.
The company complied with the regulations and activated the plan for the loss of structures and the escape of fish in less than 24 hours, giving notice of the contingency to SERNAPESCA and the Navy.
Through an essential fact to the Commission for the Financial Market (CMF), Blumar S.A. It also reported that its subsidiary Salmones Blumar suffered the escape of fish from the "Caicura" farming center, located in the Seno Reloncaví, in the Los Lagos region.
According to the document, signed by Blumar's general manager, Gerardo Balbontín, the leak was caused by a strong "Puelche" windstorm, which generated large waves. This, added to the marine currents, gave way to the farming center suffering the cut of its moorings and subsequent collapse of the module.
The latter, as reported, until yesterday kept 875,144 fish in the fattening stage, however, so far the exact magnitude of the escape is unknown. The salmon leak from Blumar would be the second-biggest fish leak after the collapse of Norwegian Marine Harvest's cages in 2018, when the company reported the leak of around 900,000 salmon in Calbuco.
