Rising UK demand for premium seafood creates strong strategic opportunity for Norwegian halibut

NORWAY
Friday, September 18, 2026, 06:00 (GMT + 9)

Norwegian halibut production is projected to scale from 2,500 to over 20,000 tonnes annually by 2030, enabling retailers, suppliers, and foodservice operators to meet growing demand for high-quality, fully traceable seafood. Norway is significantly expanding its production of Atlantic halibut (Hippoglossus hippoglossus) to meet growing global demand for premium seafood products, particularly in strategic markets such as the United Kingdom. According to data from the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC), Norwegian halibut production volumes are set to experience substantial growth, increasing from approximately 2,500 tonnes in 2025 to more than 20,000 tonnes annually by 2030. This expansion makes the species one of the fastest-growing seafood categories in the Nordic nation. FULL STORY
