The catering multinational DO & CO Aktiengesellschaft has officially launched its new Sustainable Sourcing Policy for the 2025/2026 business year, establishing a strict regulatory framework with targets set until 2030 to transform its global supply chains.

The catering multinational DO & CO Aktiengesellschaft has officially launched its new Sustainable Sourcing Policy for the 2025/2026 business year, establishing a strict regulatory framework with targets set until 2030 to transform its global supply chains. The document, approved with an effective date of June 11, 2026, is based on European Union legislative frameworks such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), and the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

Within its production transformation strategy, the company identified 12 critical ingredients of high environmental and social risk, among which beef, veal, pork, cacao, coffee, palm oil, soy, paper and pulp, chicken, eggs, and as an absolute priority, fish and seafood, stand out.

In the specific field of marine products, the firm determined that by 2030, 100% of farmed fish will come from environments certified under Global Animal Partnership (GAP), RSPCA Assured, or Naturland standards, guaranteeing proper stocking densities and humane handling practices. Likewise, mutilation practices such as eyestalk ablation have been strictly prohibited. Regarding processing and slaughter, internal regulations require minimizing handling stress, setting a maximum time out of water of less than 1 minute in operations using holding tanks, and mandating the application of humane percussive or electrical stunning systems before slaughter, extending electrical stunning to shrimp and prawns.

For wild-caught fish and seafood, the multinational will prohibit harmful fishing methods such as bottom gill nets, trawlers, dredges, and explosives, further limiting capture times to a maximum of 60 minutes. Sourcing will prioritize fisheries endorsed by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), ASC, and Friends of the Sea, ensuring bycatch reduction and ecosystem protection through schemes benchmarked and recognized by the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI).

As a complementary biological urgency measure, the corporation committed to identifying and completely discontinuing the purchase of any marine species classified as vulnerable, endangered, or critically endangered within the IUCN Red List by the end of 2026. Suppliers who breach these regulations or acquire inputs from vessels listed on any official illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing blacklist will face immediate termination of their business contracts.

The oversight and compliance of this cross-cutting policy will fall directly on the members of the Management Board of DO & CO, in coordination with the Purchasing, Sustainability, Human Resources, and Legal departments. Supplier audits and comprehensive supply chain mapping will become the operational norm of the company to ensure global traceability across all its operations.
