All salmon from Bakkafrost is sold under the Bakkafrost main brand. Depending on the origin of the salmon, customer segment and product or quality, co-branded sub-brands are used.

In 2025, the company faced a challenging environment marked by increased global supply and sustained pressure on salmon prices. Despite these difficulties, Bakkafrost maintained strong biological performance and continued executing its long-term strategy across the Faroe Islands and Scotland, reinforcing its position as a leading player in the industry.

Financial Resilience Amid Market Challenges

Bakkafrost reported operating revenues of approximately $1.02 billion USD (DKK 7.0 billion) and an operational EBIT of about $129 million USD (DKK 888 million). While profitability was affected by lower salmon prices, the impact was mitigated by a sharp rise in harvest volumes.

Total harvest reached 106,823 tonnes gutted weight in 2025, a significant increase from 90,656 tonnes in 2024.

The company also maintained a strong financial structure, with an equity ratio of 58%, allowing continued investment in growth initiatives while supporting shareholder returns. The Board of Directors announced it will propose a dividend of approximately $0.50 USD per share (DKK 3.45) at the April 2026 Annual General Meeting.

Record Biological Performance and Growth

Operationally, 2025 stood out as a record-breaking year in the Faroe Islands, with high growth rates, low mortality, and effective control of sea lice populations.

Freshwater operations produced a record 18.7 million smolt, reflecting improved efficiency and quality. Meanwhile, in Scotland, the company’s transition to large-smolt farming showed clear progress, with average harvest weight increasing to 5.3 kg.

Notably, Bakkafrost reported zero antibiotic use and zero fish escapes across all operations—an important benchmark in sustainable aquaculture.

Sustainability and Climate Commitments Move Forward

Sustainability remains central to Bakkafrost’s strategy. The company continues to pursue its science-based climate goals, aiming to reduce:

  • Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50%
  • Scope 3 emissions by 52% per tonne of product sold by 2030

Although total greenhouse gas emissions rose in 2025 due to increased production, the company reaffirmed its commitment to its climate transition plan aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Key initiatives include the development of the Eysturlund wind farm, expanded use of renewable electricity in Scotland, and participation in the DecarbFaroe carbon capture pilot project.

Strong Local Impact and Community Investment

Beyond operations, Bakkafrost continues to play a vital role in local economies. In 2025, the company paid approximately $138 million USD (DKK 947 million) in salaries and directed 61% of its procurement spending to local suppliers.

It also supported regional well-being through initiatives such as the Healthy Living Fund, reinforcing its commitment to the communities where it operates.

The 2025 Integrated Annual Report underscores Bakkafrost’s ability to navigate market volatility while delivering growth, maintaining sustainability leadership, and strengthening its operational and financial foundations.
