From 2015 to 2024, Vietnam’s pangasius exporting enterprises have experienced significant shifts in rankings, development strategies, competitiveness, and business performance.

These changes are evident in fluctuations in export turnover and the contribution rates of the Top 5 companies to the country’s total pangasius exports, as reported by Ms.Thu Hang, editor of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers.

1. Vinh Hoan Corporation – Sustained Industry Leadership

Vinh Hoan Corporation has consistently held the leading position in Vietnam’s pangasius export sector for the past 10 years, despite experiencing slight declines in export turnover in recent years. The company maintains its dominance through a sustainable development strategy, continuous improvements in product quality, and market expansion, particularly for value-added products.

Vinh Hoan remains the largest pangasius exporter in Vietnam, with its primary export market being the United States. In 2015, the company exported nearly $228 million to the US, accounting for 3.41% of total pangasius exports. In 2024, Vinh Hoan’s export turnover increased by approximately 15% compared to 2023, reaffirming its top position.

2. Nam Viet Corporation – Stable Growth and Market Presence

Nam Viet Corporation (NAVICO) has consistently maintained its position in the Top 5 for the past decade, demonstrating resilience and steady growth. While its contribution rate to total turnover has fluctuated, its export turnover has remained stable, growing from $93 million in 2015 to $126 million in 2022.

The company focuses on sustainability, implementing a strict quality management system and optimizing production processes to reduce costs and enhance efficiency. Despite challenges faced by the pangasius industry in 2024, Nam Viet’s export turnover remained stable compared to 2023.

3. Van Duc Tien Giang Food Processing Export Company Limited – Rapid Growth and Market Expansion

Van Duc Tien Giang (VDTG) has emerged as a strong contender in recent years, entering the Top 5 through significant growth. In 2022, its export turnover increased by approximately 90% compared to 2020, propelling the company to third place. This success reflects ongoing improvements in product quality and international market expansion.

By 2024, the company’s export turnover had increased by 40% compared to 2023, further consolidating its presence in the global market.

4. IDI Multinational Investment and Development Corporation – Adapting to Market Challenges

IDI Corporation has experienced ranking shifts within the Top 5, reflecting the intense competition within the industry. To navigate these challenges, the company has adjusted its business strategy, expanded production capacity, diversified its product offerings, and sought new international markets.

5. Bien Dong Seafood Company Limited & Truong Giang Seafood Joint Stock Company

Bien Dong Seafood Company Limited experienced strong growth between 2015 and 2019 but faced declining export turnover in 2023 due to increasing competition and market volatility. Despite maintaining product quality and adjusting business strategies, the company dropped out of the Top 5 in 2024.

Replacing Bien Dong in 2024 was Truong Giang Seafood Joint Stock Company, marking a new leader in the industry’s top exporters.

Conclusion

The past decade has witnessed dynamic shifts among Vietnam’s leading pangasius exporters. While Vinh Hoan continues to dominate, companies such as Nam Viet and Van Duc Tien Giang are reinforcing their positions through sustainability, product quality, and market diversification. The entry of new players like Truong Giang highlights the industry’s evolving landscape, reflecting both challenges and opportunities in the global pangasius market.
