The head of PRODUCE explained that this work will have a great economic and social impact, generating US$ 4,500 million annually, representing 1.8% of the country's GDP that would generate 8,550 direct jobs, thanks to the approach to the Asia-Pacific economies, and allowing Peru to position itself as an economic leader in the region.

“The opportunities of the Chancay Megaport will allow us to go to the Asia-Pacific market, where 55% of the world's population lives, has 22% of imports and 38% of the world's GDP,” he said.

He assured that four large Asian markets will be opened to Peru: China, Japan, South Korea and Indonesia, to which products such as corn, barley, soybeans, pork, beef and hydrobiological resources from fishing and aquaculture such as anchovy, fan shells and even trout.

Impact on fishing and manufacturing

Minister Gonzalez Guerrero highlighted that the megaport will energize, in the case of the fishing sector, the canning and freezing industry, in addition to the flour industry, generating S/450 million and 1,200 jobs.

Likewise, he specified that in the case of the manufacturing industry the impact will occur mainly in the food, beverage, metalworking and furniture sectors, with around S / 4,200 million that will generate 6,000 direct jobs.

"From now on we are committed to designing a multisector plan with active participation of the private sector to prioritize actions, regulatory adjustments and investments to be made to take advantage of the opportunities that this project will provide for the country's economy," he said.
