The accreditation, within the framework of the Energy Efficiency Law, considers goals for each Division and commits an energy saving of 13,540,148 kWh by December 2024, a figure equivalent to the residential consumption of 1,700 homes in an entire year.

18 months after starting the audit process to certify the Camanchaca Energy Efficiency Management System, SGEE, and the implementation of investments, Camanchaca became the first fishing, salmon and mussel farming company at the national level to achieve certification for all its Divisions with the international standard ISO 50,001.

The implementation process had the support of Efizity, a subsidiary of Colbún, and the certification audit was carried out by Aenor. The process consisted of various stages (documentaries, field visits, interviews, among others), where the existing information was verified and the operation of plants and the implementation of improvement plans were reviewed.

Ricardo García Holtz, general manager of Camanchaca, commented that “certification is just the tip of the iceberg of a transformative effort to be more efficient in the use of energy, motivated by the dual purpose of contributing to fewer carbon emissions, and reduce our costs. Early in 2019, we challenged ourselves at Salmones Camanchaca to be Carbon Neutral in 2025, contributing to Chile's commitment to be so in 2050, and very aware of the key role that the ocean will play in feeding the world, where Camanchaca is a global player in fishing. wildlife and aquaculture.

García added that this commitment involved permeating the internal culture, with the valuation of sustainability as a pillar of the company's development, present from the Tarapacá Region to Aysén. “We are proud to advance the commitment of Camanchaca workers to care for our planet and to give more legitimacy to what we do. This is not only energy savings, but a milestone that marks a sustainable nature,” García confirmed.

Between 2019 and 2023, Camanchaca has taken important steps. For example: starting up new boilers for the generation of energy with liquefied gas and natural gas (LPG and NG) in the process plants in Tomé, Rauco and Coronel, which made it possible to reduce C02 emissions by almost 6 thousand tons, equivalent to removing almost 1,500 cars from circulation or planting 12,000 trees; or more recently, connecting the Ensenada Río Blanco Hydroelectric Power Plant to the Petrohué fish farm, an important milestone in Salmones Camanchaca's carbon neutrality strategy; or sign the agreement in 2020 with Colbún to guarantee the availability of 100% renewable energy in all Divisions.

During 2023 and as part of the development process of the Energy Management System, Camanchaca implemented its Energy Sustainability Policy which defines, among its main guidelines, establishing a culture of energy use that entails practices - at all levels - that promote energy savings. and rational use, ensuring that it comes from clean sources and improves performance in the use of the resource. And ensure the allocation of human, financial and material resources to achieve the objectives.

Among the main challenges of 2024 is to begin measuring online data to keep track of energy management and be able to take corrective actions in a timely manner. It should be noted that in Chile only 27 companies have achieved this certification.
