Prices for surimi in the world market have decreased by 20-30% compared to last year. At the same time, the Asian market has shifted to buying Russian pollock surimi instead of US-made surimi, since Russian products are cheaper in price with the same quality.

Surimi prices in 2023 decreased by 20-30%, and sales in the first quarter of this year decreased by 10%, according to the All-Russian Association of Fisheries Industry (VARPE), citing FAO data. In the message, the experts noted that the demand for surimi is declining in both Japan and Europe. This is due to a decrease in income, as a result of which consumers cut all unnecessary expenses, experts say.

Experts point out that in the Asian market, demand for products from the United States is declining, while demand for Russian products is growing. This is due to the fact that with a decrease in prices for surimi, Russian fish processors produce products at lower costs, and buyers do not care which country of origin the fish product has, if it meets the required level of quality and price.

At the same time, the average price of pollock minced meat and surimi supplied to China in the first half of 2023 decreased by a quarter compared to the same period in 2022, reaching $2,088.5 per ton, the VARPE said.
