Produce authorizes exploratory fishing of the resource Eastern Pacific bonito in Ica until October 31, 2023

The Ministry of Production (Produce) authorized the Institute of the Sea of Peru (Imarpe) to carry out exploratory fishing for the Eastern Pacific bonito (Sarda chiliensis chiliensis) resource in the maritime area adjacent to the department of Ica until October 31, 2023 .

According to ministerial resolution No. 00278-2023-PRODUCE, published in the newspaper El Peruano, the total catch volume of the bonito resource, during the exploratory fishing period, should not exceed 1,500 tons. Likewise, vessels that use purse seine fishing gear must not exceed 3 tons of bonito resource, per fishing activity, for each vessel.

It was indicated that Produce, through directorial resolution issued by the General Directorate of Supervision, Inspection and Sanction, ends exploratory fishing when the authorized catch volume is reached or estimated to be reached, or when IMARPE recommends it, or failing that, its execution must not exceed December 31, 2023.

It was also specified that exploratory fishing is subject to the conclusions and recommendations that Imarpe sends to Produce, as a result of the effective development of the research activity, without prejudice to the total or partial protection measures of the juvenile fraction, that said institution recommend setting.

Chilean sea urchin exploratory fishery

For a period of 15 days, Produce authorized Imarpe an exploratory fishing for the Chilean sea urchin (Loxechinus albus) resource, in the maritime area between coordinates -15.06133° S; -75.40950° W and -15.45830° S; - 75.02380° W.

Through ministerial resolution No. 00279-2023-PRODUCE, it was specified that the start of exploratory fishing will begin the day after the publication of the list of artisanal fishing vessels and non-board artisanal fishermen of the Regional Government's agency with fishing jurisdiction. respective.

Exploratory fishing will be carried out under the following conditions: participating artisanal fishermen (on board and not on board) must have a valid fishing permit; be members of social organizations of artisanal fishermen that have carried out extractive activity in the maritime area included in the aforementioned ministerial resolution.

Likewise, the extraction of the Chilean sea urchin resource must not exceed 0.3 t/trip-vessel; The entrance to the Strict Protection Zone of the San Fernando National Reserve and to Punta San Juan of the National Reserve of the System of Islands, Islets and Puntas Guaneras - RNIIPG is restricted; and the registration of departure and arrival is carried out in accordance with the current regulations of the General Directorate of Captaincies and Coast Guard - DICAPI of the Peruvian Navy of the Ministry of Defense.

Finally, it was established that the volume of the Chilean urchin resource extracted by boarded and non-boarded artisanal fishermen who participate in this exploratory fishing, is discounted from the Maximum Allowable Total Catch Limit (LMCTP), which is assigned for the extraction season.
