The Government of the Russian Federation until the end of 2023 introduces a ban on the import of finished products from fish and seafood from unfriendly countries. This was reported in the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia.

“A ban is being introduced on the import into the Russian Federation of finished fish and seafood products originating from unfriendly countries,” the ministry said in a statement.

It is specified that the relevant amendments were signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and these measures will be valid until the end of 2023.

“Restrictions on the import into the Russian Federation of fish and seafood products (codes 1604 and 1605 of the TN VED of the EAEU) originating from unfriendly countries, including the EU, the USA, Norway, will free up certain market niches, including in the premium segment, which will be filled by domestic producers, whose capacities allow to fully meet the needs of the domestic market for such products, and supplies of fish from countries, with the exception of unfriendly ones, will also remain”, commented the Federal Agency for Fishery.

The Ministry of Economic Development believes that Russian companies will have the opportunity to increase production volumes, expand the range and increase jobs.
