Zero duty on the import of mussels ceased to work in March 2023. Fishermen appealed to the government with a request to extend its validity, otherwise consumers will face price increases.
The Fish Union called boiled-frozen mussel meat supplied to Russia from abroad “a critically important raw material”. In the message of the organization, its representatives explain that this product is not produced in Russia, but it is an important part of the production of seafood preserves.
The zero rate on the import of this product ceased to be valid on March 31, 2023. Over the past months, no decision was made to extend the zero duty, meanwhile, as the fishermen point out, the ruble exchange rate has fallen sharply, and this will affect the rise in prices for the final product. Favorite seafood presses may become unaffordable for Russians.
Recall that the EEC decided to extend for a year the zero duty on the import of krill meat, another seafood that is not mined in the EAEU, but is key in the creation of preservatives, canned food and spreads from seafood. Zero import duties in this case will help keep production capacities busy and at the same time avoid rising prices for processed products.
