Frozen monkfish imports decreased by 59% in December

A total of 1,218,013 tons of seafood were imported by December, of which 24,849 tons, or 2.04%, of frozen monkfish were imported.
In the case of the previous year 2021, 30,476 tons were imported, accounting for 2.69% of 1,131,280 tons.
Frozen monkfish imports in December were 1,646 tons, down 49% from 3,226 tons the previous year, and the cumulative import volume was 24,849 tons, down 18% from 30,476 tons.
The average import volume in December from 2017 to 2022 was 2,360 tons, and the cumulative amount of frozen monkfish imports over the past six years was the highest at 30,476 tons in 2021 and the lowest at 24,849 tons in 2022.
24,084 tons, or 96.9% of the total imports, were imported from China, a major supplier of frozen monkfish, and 626 tons were imported from the United States, 96 tons from Brazil, and 43 tons from South Africa. The import unit price by country was the highest for the United States at USD 4.45/kg, followed by Brazil at USD 3.14/kg, South Africa at USD 3.53/kg, and China at USD 1.59/kg.
In December, the amount of imported frozen monkfish was USD 2.38 million, down 59% from USD 5.89 million the previous year, and the cumulative import amount was USD 41.42 million, a decrease of 7% from USD 44.43 million the previous year.
The average import unit price in December was USD 1.45/kg, down 20.6% from USD 1.83/kg in the previous year.
