Frozen mackerel import volume increased by 51% in December

A total of 1,218,013 tons of imported seafood were imported by December 2022, and frozen mackerel accounted for 4.4% of 530,040 tons, and in the case of 2021 of the previous year, 45,219 tons were imported, accounting for 4.0% of the total 1,131,280 tons.
Frozen mackerel imports in December were 13,228 tons, up 51% from the previous year's 8,738 tons, and the cumulative import volume was 53,040 tons, down 4% from the previous year's 55,226 tons.
The average import volume in December from 2017 to 2022 was 9,108 tons, and among the last six years, frozen mackerel imports were the highest at 55,226 tons in 2021 and the least at 35,673 tons in 2017.
Of a total of 10 countries that exported frozen mackerel to South Korea, the most important has been Norway with 47,161 tons, China with 2,553 tons, the United Kingdom with 1,284 tons, Russia with 1,217 tons and the Netherlands with 341 tons.
As for the average import unit price by country, Norway had the highest unit price at USD 2.39/kg, followed by USD 2.03/kg for China, USD 2.41/kg for the United Kingdom, USD 2.16/kg for the Netherlands, and USD 0.89/kg for Russia.
Frozen mackerel imports amounted to USD 28.87 million, a 42% increase from USD 20.35 million in the previous year, and the cumulative amount was USD 123.68 million, a 13% increase from USD 109.32 million in the previous year.
The unit price of imports in December was USD 2.18/kg, a 6.3% decrease from USD 2.33/kg in the previous year.
