OEFA fines Repsol for more than USD 10.5M for oil spill false information

As reported, said sanction was applied for giving false information and not carrying out containment and cleaning actions for the oil spill that occurred on January 15 in the Ventanilla Sea.
La Refineria La Pampilla SAA is a company controlled 99.20% by Repsol Peru BV (Amsterdam). Its President is the Spaniard Jaime Fernandez-Cuesta who was transferred to Peru from the Netherlands to assume this responsibility.
The first fine of 3,000 UIT, equivalent to S/ 13,800,000, was imposed for including false information in the emergency report regarding the calculation of the volume of crude oil spilled, the impacted area and the period of the spill at Terminal Multibuoys No. two.
The second fine of 6340,082 UIT, equivalent to S/ 29 million 164 thousand 377.2, was imposed for not carrying out the containment and recovery of the hydrocarbon, nor the cleaning actions of the affected soil area.
In this way, the OEFA has determined the administrative responsibility and is already imposing the third fine within the framework of the six sanctioning administrative procedures initiated against Repsol.
The OEFA will continue to report on the environmental control actions carried out in relation to the oil spill in Ventanilla.
