The artisanal fishermen affected by the oil spill from the Repsol company have mobilized towards the Congress of the Republic demanding that the final report of the Andean Peoples Commission be approved on the actions of public and private officials that caused the oil spill of the multinational company Repsol, and its consequences on the environment and ecology.

It should be remembered that on September 16, the Plenary of Congress decided that this report should return to the Andean Peoples Commission with 60 votes in favor, 42 against and zero abstentions.

As a result of this, congresswoman Margot Palacios, former president of the Andean Peoples Commission, denounced that the Fuerza Popular congressmen seek to discredit the report in favor of the Repsol company, since they have not presented any substantive objection to the report. In response to this statement, the spokeswoman for Fuerza Popular, Patricia Juárez, pointed out that her caucus did not support the report because it has political biases.

Associations of artisanal fishermen from Ventanilla, Ancón, Santa Rosa and Chancay participated in the mobilization. Affected merchants and residents also joined. The demonstrators affirm that they have not received support from the government and that the Repsol company does not give them any type of response. They also showed their support for the report presented by Congresswoman Margot Palacios.
