In the Far East, there is an active fishery for sardine (Iwashi) and Far Eastern mackerel: a total of 66 thousand tons have been produced since the beginning of the year, 40% more than in 2021.
The growing Iwashi sardine catch as of July 18 amounted to 41 thousand tons (10.4 thousand tons were caught in the Japanese EEZ since the beginning of the year according to quotas received under intergovernmental agreements). The result of production is 76% higher than the same date of the previous year (23.3 thousand tons). The growing catch of mackerel since the beginning of the year reaches 25 thousand tons, 4% more than in 2021.
Sardine catches are high, sometimes the daily catch exceeds 250 tons, the average catch per vessel day per week was 73.2 tons and 2345 tons were harvested per week.
Currently, five Russian medium and large capacity vessels are operating in the field. Production takes place in the frontal zones of a warm anticyclonic eddy south of the Lesser Kuril Range, with some of the vessels moving to the frontal zones of the opposite Oyashio Current. Iturup.
Near the border of the exclusive economic zone of Russia, in open waters, two groups of foreign vessels are working on fishing for pelagic objects - about 80-100 units, presumably under the flag of the People's Republic of China.
