Minister Luis Basterra ordered the measure after denouncing the presence of a hundred foreign fishing vessels.

The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Nation, Luis Basterra, through the Undersecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture, reported that the immediate intervention of the National Directorate for Fisheries Coordination and Inspection (DNCYFP) was ordered, in a joint action with the Argentine Naval Prefecture, with the aim of reinforcing control and patrolling in the Argentine Sea, over these actions "that are not only predatory on national natural resources but also affect the safety of workers in the sector."

From the ministry they reported that the decision is based on complaints filed of illegal fishing activities by foreign vessels in the Argentine Exclusive Economic Zone (ZEEA).

The Interchambers of the Argentine Fishing Industry sent the President a letter to President Alberto Fernández "alerting about the serious situation that occurs in the ZEEA, again generated by the illegal activity that foreign fishing vessels are carrying out in our waters" . The entity denounced that "more than 100 foreign vessels were caught in the midst of squid exploitation" and that "estimating a catch of 50 tonnes of squid per vessel, they would already have captured an amount similar to or greater than the catch of Argentine vessels throughout the fishing season ”.

Patrol ship "ARA Bouchard" recently incorporated into the Argentine Navy

The Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Nation, Carlos Liberman maintained that "in order to give an official and immediate response to the reported events, the intervention and implementation of the protocol of preventive action with the Argentine Naval Prefecture and the Armed, to contribute all the resources of the State to clarify this situation and generate the official information necessary for the application of sanctions.

Likewise, Liberman stressed that "it is a complex task to monitor the Argentine Sea given its extension, that is why the actions of control and protection of our maritime resources are framed within a set of complementary strategic and tactical elements, which we monitor day by day to keep active the policy of protection and defense of the sovereignty of Argentine resources ».

Today an immediate reinforcement patrol was ordered, in charge of the Coast Guard Ship 27 Prefect Fique, which set sail for that area, to strengthen the control actions, which are added to the daily tasks such as flights and operations of the ARA Bouchard ship, developed and put in functions, especially for Argentine maritime protection missions.
