Anchovy Fishing in the North-Central Zone Surpasses 60% of the Assigned Quota

The head of PRODUCE, Sergio González, indicated that, until today, May 13, there has been a discharge of 1,497,302 tons of the aforementioned resource.
The Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) confirmed the unloading of 1,497,302 tons of anchovy (Engraulis ringens) and white anchovy (Anchoa nasus) resources for indirect human consumption from the first 2024 fishing season in the North-Central zone, according to statistics updated as of May 13.

The head of PRODUCE, Sergio González Guerrero, highlighted that this figure is equivalent to 60.5% of the 2,475,000 tons of assigned quota for the season that began on April 16, with a mode of 12 cm.
“Almost a month after the fishing season began, the results are auspicious, with important progress. We hope that in the following days and weeks the panorama continues, in order to allow the generation of work and economic income for the country," said the minister.
It should be indicated that the main ports where the discharges were made were: Malabrigo (23.5%), Chimbote (19.4%), Callao (13.2%), Coishco (8.9%), Chancay (7.1%), Supe (5.9%) and Tambo de Mora (5.6%).
According to the fishing progress, it should be considered that the steel fleet (Decreto Legislativo 25977) rregistered a discharge of 1,106,146 tons; Meanwhile, the timber fleet (Ley 26920) reached 391,156 tons. Of the last 108 E/Ps they reached their established quota.
Contribution to the economy of the season
In the first North – Central 2024 fishing season, extractive activity has been generating around 11,400 direct jobs and 34,700 indirect jobs throughout the entire chain of fishing activity.
Industrial fishing for indirect human consumption for this year has a projection of contributing 0.5% of the national GDP and generating a contribution of 24% to the Fishing GDP, equivalent to an added value of S/ 385 million.
In terms of exports, a contribution of more than 24% is expected in fishing exports, equivalent to USD 831 million in foreign currency for the country. It is estimated that it would have a contribution of close to 8% to national exports at the end of 2024.
