The Spanish technology company Satlink, a leading company in the development of technological solutions for sustainable maritime-fishing activity, has been selected as a finalist in the World Sustainability Awards 2024 in the 'Communication' category. Satlink competes for the distinction along with companies from a wide variety of sectors internationally, such as the also Spanish Naturgy, DBS Bank, Eastman and Grupo Ageas Portugal.
The awards will be presented in Amsterdam next October and are organized by Sustainability Leaders, the global organization of sustainability managers and the implementation of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) criteria, to collaborate and accelerate different initiatives in these areas.
The jury has valued Satlink's work in communication for its efforts to promote responsible and sustainable management of fisheries, highlight good industry practices and promote care for the oceans and their resources.
According to the jury, this effort by Satlink has achieved a triple objective: raising awareness about the need to guarantee the long-term sustainability of fisheries, promoting dialogue in the maritime sector involving all interested parties, and highlighting good work. of fishing fleets that not only follow good practices, but also take care of the oceans, their resources and the people who work in them.
Likewise, the jury highlights that Satlink's work contributes to combating misinformation and fake news about the fishing industry, and that the company's holistic approach to communication has allowed it to reach all interest groups, promoting tangible changes and promoting the implementation of technology as a key tool to guarantee the sustainability of marine activity and resources.
According to Kathryn Gavira, Director of Sustainability at Satlink, “we develop technology for better management of oceans and fisheries, and we have the privilege of working with all stakeholders. It is satisfying to see how communication is allowing us to amplify the message and reach all audiences through different channels, highlight the good work of the industry, forge alliances and promote dialogue in the maritime-fishing sector, involving all stakeholders.”
Improving knowledge of the oceans for more effective management of their resources, in collaboration with the maritime-fishery sector and the scientific community, is the basis of Satlink's activity. In this regard, it should be noted that the company created the Science and Sustainability department in 2017, with the aim of generating greater knowledge about the oceans and thus contributing to facing challenges such as illegal fishing, marine pollution or climate change.
