Maritime Authority activated emergency protocol in response to fire in naval device in Cupquelan estuary

During the afternoon of Wednesday, June 26, and after a notice received by the Port Captain of Puerto Chacabuco, the Maritime Government of Aysén activated its emergency protocol in the event of a fire that originated around 1:00 p.m. inside a habitation pontoon of the “Erasmo 3” aquaculture center of the Cooke Chile company, located in the Estero Cupquelan sector, Aysén region.
Seven people were kept in a naval device, all of whom managed to be rescued unharmed by boats that were in support of the cultivation center; Likewise, four warehouses in the sector are working on fire containment and control tasks.
The Maritime Authority in Aysén became aware of the incident around 3:00 p.m., and immediately ordered the departure of the Coastal Patrol Boat “Machado”, with naval personnel, permanent Maritime Prosecutor and technical personnel for risk prevention and environment dependent on the Maritime Government of Aysén, to carry out the corresponding procedures in the area of the incident. At the same time, the activation of the Contingency Plan for the Control of Hydrocarbon Spills of the owner company was ordered.
The Maritime Governor of Aysén, Captain of Navlo LT Mario Besoain Fuentes, regretted the incident and thanked the important support provided by the maritime community in the vicinity. Likewise, he reiterated the importance of timely information in the event of this or other types of accidents, in order to provide proper assistance and management of the emergency and prevent situations that may put people's lives at risk or in danger, navigation or the environment.
Finally, he also thanked the commitment of all the emergency teams and ships that attended the sector, in order to cooperate in the tasks of this emergency.
