Peru’s Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) has set 22 November as the launch date for the country’s second anchovy season in its north-central fishing region, establishing a 2.047 million metric ton (MT) capture limit, government gazette El Peruano reported.

The country divides its anchovy fishing areas into two regions – south and north-central – with different capture limits and seasons set for each one.

The Association of Stevedoring Companies and Port Employment Centers, Anesco, has presented five allegations to the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda to the Draft Law amending the Consolidated Text of the Law on State Ports and the Merchant Navy and the Maritime Navigation Law. "The Draft Law incorporates a series of adaptations to the First Book regulating the state-owned port system that directly affect the interests and operations of the terminals dedicated to providing the port service of handling goods"

The European Commission invites all interested parties to comment on the proposals to review the rules on state aid in the agricultural, forestry and fisheries sectors. The objective of the proposed revision is to align the current rules with the political priorities of the EU, in particular the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), as well as the European Green Deal. Member States and other interested parties have until March 13, 2022 to respond to the consultation.

The total fish catch of Icelandic vessels in 2021 was just over 1,158,000 tonnes, which is 13% more than in 2020.

Pelagic catch was 655,000 tonnes, 24% more than in 2020 since no capelin was landed in that year. Demersal catch increased by 2% between years, from 463,000 tonnes in 2020 to 472,000 tonnes in 2021.

United States-based fish farmer Forever Oceans has signed a deal with Brazil for the largest offshore concession ever given for sustainable marine aquaculture, totalling 64,200 hectares.

Forever Oceans will raise seriola rivoliana – known by several names including amberjack, longfin yellowtail and in Brazil as ‘Olho de Boi’ or remeiro – in automated cages in two zones between 4.3-9.3 miles off the coast of the Brazilian state of Bahia.

The yard has already built filleter Sisimiut and shrimp trawler Avataq for Royal Greenland, as well as the recently delivered Nataarnaq for Royal Greenland partner company Ice Trawl Greenland.

The Brexit Inshore Fisheries Business Model Adjustment Scheme delivers on a recommendation of the Report of the Seafood Task Force – Navigating Change (October 2021).

The Maersk shipping company has launched a new refrigerated train service between Algeciras and Marín. The new rail route for refrigerated cargo will connect the shipping company's two hubs in Andalusia and Galicia in a day and a half. The new service departs from the port of Algeciras, in Cádiz, on Wednesdays and arrives at the port of Pontevedra every Friday at noon.

This new train service aims to provide Galician companies with "agility, flexibility and resilience", explains the shipping company.

The UK establishes a new law in the UK whereby seafarers will be exempt from criminal prosecution, under the new UK immigration law. All this means that seafarers on British ships cannot be prosecuted for helping to save people at sea, following a successful campaign by Nautilus International, with the help of Maritime UK and the UK Chamber of Shipping.

El ministro del Interior, Tom Pursglove, confirmó que una nueva enmienda «deja fuera de toda duda que las organizaciones y personas que rescatan a personas en peligro no serán condenadas por delitos de tráfico de personas».
