The coastal states have now agreed on quotas for NVG herring and blue whiting for 2022.

There was full agreement to follow the quota council from ICES, so the quotas for 2022 will be 752,736 tonnes of blue whiting and 598,588 tonnes of NVG herring, respectively.

A low-cost system to monitor the microbiome of seaweed farms and identify diseases before they spread is being developed by a PhD student at MIT.

Last year, Charlene Xia, from MIT’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, proposed a project to predict and prevent the spread of diseases on seaweed farms.

Already popular in East Asian cuisines, seaweed holds tremendous potential as a sustainable food source for the world’s ever-growing population.

Statistics from the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources stated that the total production of yellowfin tuna in the Sultanate of Oman for the year 2020 amounted to 68,000 tonnes, with a total value of OMR 64 million, compared to 37,000 tonnes. in 2019 with a total value of around OMR 38 million.

This is due to the development of the marine fishing fleet in the Sultanate with a slowdown in fishing pressure in some neighboring countries.
