In the report, the scientists point out that during the digestion process, the larvae grind up the waste, extracting all the nutrients from the organic matter and reducing its volume by 80%. The output of the product is biohumus, which can be supplied to agricultural enterprises, and larvae, which can be further processed to extract Omega-3 and other useful substances.

The currently existing alternatives - waste incineration and burial - are both energy-consuming and expensive, pollute the environment, and leave an unpleasant odor at disposal sites.
