The company marketed more than 100,000 tons of products in 70 countries

The canning company Nauterra, formerly Grupo Calvo, had a turnover of 697 million euros in 2023, 3% more than in the previous year, and recorded a gross operating profit of 55.6 million, 7.8% higher, according to the annual results released yesterday by the Carballo-based company, which did not disclose the net profit. In 2022, with a turnover of 678 million euros, they had also exceeded the data for 2021.

AECOC has presented the conclusions of its '1st Innovation Report in Mass Consumption', which reflects that 84% of the mass consumption companies participating in the report have an annual innovation plan and, in addition, have formally created an area of innovation in your company to continue developing the business. The average composition of these areas is 9 people.

According to the data presented by Albert Anglarill, Innovation Manager at AECOC, the analysis shows that 73% of companies have, among their positions, an Innovation Director, although only in 42% of cases this figure forms part of the Management Committee.

In a bid to foster comprehensive stakeholder engagement, the Pelagic Advisory Council (PelAC) and the North Western Waters Advisory Council (NWWAC) have formally requested a joint workshop with the Directorate General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE) to discuss the new Fisheries Control Regulation.

This request, spearheaded by the chairs of both advisory councils, aims to ensure in-depth dialogue and effective interaction with all members on the regulation’s implementation.

Swedish foodtech company Agtira has announced a new three-way partnership with Dutch land-based fish farming engineering and consultancy firm Landing Aquaculture to install a compact Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) at its aquaponics facility in Östersund, central Sweden.

This partnership aims to enhance Agtira’s “circular close cultivation” model, integrating fish farming with hydroponic vegetable production using recycled water.

Yoshiharu Kamino, manager of the Surimi Group, Sales Division 2 at Tokai Denpun (Shizuoka City, President Hiroshi Hayama), gave a speech at an exhibition held by the company in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo on the 24th, where he presented his outlook for future surimi production in major countries.

He predicted that Russia, a new producer of Alaska pollock surimi, will see its current production of about 40,000 tons grow two to three times to 100,000 tons in 2027, three years from now, and that India, the world's fourth largest producer of surimi, will increase its current production of 110,000 tons to 125,000 tons, a 14% increase.

New conditions and safeguards for the use of certain exemptions to the margin of tolerance rules to ensure accurate fish quotas and healthy fisheries have been adopted by the European Commission.

The margin of tolerance is the maximum allowed difference between catch estimations by captains of fishing vessels and the actual weight of the fish caught. The standard margin of tolerance is set at 10% per species.
