Safebridge Releases Its Second Online ECDIS Familiarisation Course for Raytheon Anschuetz Synapsis ECDIS and ECDIS 24
Hamburg, Germany – 04 Sept. 2012 – (Marine NewsWire) Safebridge, the Hamburg-based online training specialist, will be demonstrating its online courseware for the Raytheon Anschuetz Synapsis ECDIS, which also covers the earlier NSC ECDIS and the new Retrofit ECDIS 24, on its stand at SMM.
Structured in the same way as the earlier courseware for the Sperry Marine VisionMaster FT, the content follows the competencies set out by the recommendations of various Flag States and represents 16 to 18 hours of study. It requires a completed IMO 1.27 generic training as a prerequisite.
In today’s financial climate of restricted budgets, the Safebridge courseware represents an opportunity to obtain manufacturer approved training at a cost that actually allows clients to increase the effectiveness of their budget. At 185 Euros, the Safebridge training represents some 10 to 12 percent of the all-up cost of classroom training, thereby allowing more officers to be trained or freeing funds for other training.
“The cost of training is proving one of the most significant factors determining shipping companies’ approach to ECDIS familiarisation training,” says Ulf Steden, Managing Director of Safebridge. “The complexity of modern ECDIS and the wide range of variations in individual manufacturer designs, the lack of a common platform, however, actually make the need for training more imperative if the desired safety benefits are to be obtained. Experience out of on-board trainings has shown that 95 percent of the ECDIS being used for navigation have incorrect settings. That demonstrates very clearly that there is a massive knowledge gap.”
Ship owners, managers and crewing agencies can book courses individually or make “Fleet Bookings,” which can then be allocated to individual officers progressively. The whole process can be managed from within the corporate account facility on the Safebridge website. Fleet training or prepaid packages offer the opportunity of discounts according to numbers.
Safebridge is developing courseware for a further six leading ECDIS manufacturers and expects to release these over the coming months. Full details can be found on our website under “Products.”
