Previously, he was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Duane Reade, a New York based pharmacy retailer with more than 250 stores and $1.8 billion in revenue. He led a major transformation of Duane Reade to create the best urban drugstore format in America, which ultimately culminated in the strategic sale of the company to Walgreens Co. in the first quarter of 2010 at an industry leading multiple.
Lederer also enjoyed a highly successful 30-year-career at Loblaw Companies Limited, Canada’s largest food distributor. He served in a variety of senior leadership positions including President from 2000 to 2006 where he was responsible for the successful pursuit of its strategic, operational and financial objectives. Under his leadership, annual sales increased from C$20 billion to C$27 billion and Loblaw Companies achieved and maintained market share leadership in every region of Canada. Lederer was responsible for the operation, performance, innovation and growth of national and regional businesses, banners and divisions. During a four-year period Lederer was also simultaneously responsible for three of the company’s four regional operations. In that role he significantly expanded annual sales revenue and operating income, grew market share leadership, and managed the integration of the acquisition of Provigo Inc.
