Mr. Fontaine graduated from high school at Colegio Sagrados Corazones de Manquehue and he obtained his Business Administration degree, with a concentration on Economics, from the Universidad Católica de Chile. He continued his studies and obtained a master`s degree in economics from the University of Chicago, United States of America.
Mr. Fontaine has followed a brilliant academic career. He was a professor at the Economics Institute of the Universidad Católica de Chile for more than a decade and he has also undertaken academic activities at the Institute of Public Affairs at Universidad de Chile. In the nineties, he was a visiting professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), United States of America.
On the other hand, Mr. Fontaine has applied his academic knowledge to the development of public policies: as a Director of Studies at the Chilean Central Bank and as a member of the committee that drafted the Central Bank's current statute.
Mr. Fontaine was the Executive Chairman of Fontaine and Paúl Consultores, an economics and financial consultancy firm with clients in Chile and abroad. Among his multiple activities, he has sat on the board of various companies, he was the author of several academic publications and he was a member of the Public Studies Magazine Editorial Board published by the Centro de Estudios Públicos (CEP).
Mr. Fontaine was born in Santiago, he is 56 years old, married and the father of five children.
