Ms. Hanauer was raised in New York. She is a graduate of Adelphi University (BA in Spanish, summa cum laude) and has an MBA from Harvard Business School.
After graduating from Adelphi, Ms. Hanauer began her career at Bankers Trust Company in New York, working in its US commercial lending division. Upon graduation from Harvard, Ms. Hanauer joined Drexel Burnham Lambert’s corporate finance group in New York and worked on numerous high yield and structured transactions.
Ms. Hanauer became a Director and Assistant Treasurer at First Boston Corporation where she ran the firm’s global long-term and US short term unsecured funding programs. Upon the merger of First Boston Corporation and Credit Suisse, Ms. Hanauer became the Chief Financial and Chief Administrative Officer of the combined firm’s newly formed Private Equity Division and was responsible for establishing the division’s infrastructure.
To broaden and enhance her experience in the alternative asset sector, Ms. Hanauer spent two years as Chief Operating and Chief Financial Officer of AEA Investors, a private equity firm and then in 2002 joined Venrock, a leading venture capital firm. Ms. Hanauer became a General Partner and was the Chief Financial and Chief Administrative Officer.
Ms. Hanauer joined the firm in 2009.
