CAPECAL is made up of 17 Peruvian processing and exporting companies of giant squid (Dosidiscus gigas), which together represent more than 60% of the value of exports. They have voluntarily partnered in a platform that allows them to articulate efforts with other actors in the governance and value chain of the giant squid fishery.
The companies are aware of the need to promote and participate in the Giant Squid Fishery Improvement Program (FIP- for its acronym in English), in order to turn this fishery into a more sustainable activity.
In the last two decades, the giant squid has become one of the most important fisheries for direct human consumption in Peru and is one of the highest volume artisanal fisheries in the world - with the participation of a registered fleet of more 2,500 artisanal vessels. This fishery generates an enormous economic and social impact for Peru, achieving export values ??of over 850 million dollars in 2019.
CAPECAL's founding companies are Pacific Freezing Company, Sabanamar Pacífico, Océano Seafood, Peruvian Sea Food, Transmarina del Perú, Refrigerados Fisholg e Hijos, Marfrío Perú, COINREFRI, Produmar, Perupez, Seafrost, Fernández, Altamar foods, Dexim, Sakana, Peru Frost and PROANCO.
