The strong creative ability of the company and the competence contained within it is the essence of our business. We have been in many situations where we have faced challenges that require technological innovation and the development of new products. As a direct consequence of this, we have developed our business to include far more than just delousing systems and in 2019 we decided to change both our name and profile.
The name Smir is a traditional Norwegian word that can be translated into English as “forge” – the process employed by a blacksmith to create a new and useful solution. The name is an umbrella for all the companies in the group, while at the same time providing room to include newly developed products and services in the portfolio.
The company has its roots in the renowned Hydrolicer mechanical delousing system. In close cooperation and with the financial support of Mowi (Marine Harvest), Odd Einar Grøntvedt and Frank Øren developed the Hydrolicer system. In 2015, Odd Einar and Frank founded the company Hydrolicer Production AS and begun expanding commercial operations based on the Hydrolicer. Further development has been the focus and key supporters that must be mentioned, in addition to Mowi, are Midtnorsk Havbruk/Bjørøya and Salmar.
We will be the supplier to which the customer will come, not only to find the solution to a specific challenge, but to be able to identify needs and improvement potential to help improve the customer’s overall economy. The Smir Group can take the overall responsibility of a project, allowing the customer to only have to deal with one party, which allows them to focus on their daily business.
Within the Smir Group we also have our own shipping company and offer a full range of operational services from our vessels. In the autumn of 2019 our first boat set sail to start a long-term contract in Scotland.
